A place to pause together.
public sculpture • presence • connection • participation • public space
The Circle Conversation asks how public art can create a space for presence, connection, and meaningful human encounter. Through sculpture, spatial experience, and participation, I am interested in what happens when people are invited to pause together rather than simply pass through a public space.
The circle is a universal form of wholeness and connection. Three interwoven circles represent mind, body, and spirit, while the open configuration creates an invitation rather than a barrier. The work is intended not simply to be viewed, but to be entered, experienced, and shared.

Our society is in crisis, a mental health crisis. Depression, addiction, and suicide rates are at an all-time high, and our children are suffering. Today’s generation of young people face challenges that are unprecedented, and many have no roadmap for how to navigate them. The impact these challenges are having on their mental health, and society at large, are devastating.
There is hope. Organizations and institutions across the country are stepping up to do their part by bringing awareness and creating opportunities for conversation around this urgent and pressing issue. It is through this concerted effort that transformation becomes attainable. We have the power to effect change in our world, We transform the world by transforming ourselves.
I use the art I make to elevate us to be better human beings. I am pushing beyond my usual practice with this ambitious sculpture project which began as a memorial to my late son and has evolved into a pursuit to honor everyone who has navigated schizophrenia, suicide, depression, addiction, PTSD and other brain chemistry challenges, either themselves or with the ones they love.
A wayfinding stanchion near the sculpture will incorporate technology that leads visitors to self-awareness prompts, tools, and resources for children and adults that may help relieve stress, reduce anxiety, and potentially save a life.
I also plan to have a couple ideas written on the stanchion as well for non-phone carriers, a land acknowledgement and logo(s) of those who sponsor the installation(s). These tools and prompts will be altered depending on community needs and will be changed over time for variety.

Three 8-foot diameter circles rest upon the ground, conveying cyclic movement. I chose the circle as a form of transformation and continuity, a shape without beginning or end.
Although the sculpture is minimalist & contemporary the material, foundry bronze, dates back to ancient Greece and works well with the environment. It is durable and supports the idea of alchemy [ transformation of matter] which is a combination of tin alloy and copper, further supporting the concept of the sculpture.
Three circles form a triad symbolizing Mind, Body & Spirit. Art is a spirit that helps elevate us to be Better Human Beings, and that is as vital as it gets.
With my background in architecture and design, I bring project management and coordination experience to collaboration with project teams, art administrators, and landscape architects for the inaugural installation.
